Canford Cliffs
Canford Cliffs was a winner at Royal Ascot 2009 in winning the Coventry Stakes with a stunning display and looks to have a chance here in the St James Palace Stakes this year. We saw him come third in the English Guineas when finishing strongly and he followed that up with an excellent win in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh recently. He will need to reverse the form from the English Guineas against Makfi but looks to be improving with every run and likely to go off as the favourite here.
Makfi
Surprised many by storming away with the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket at the start of May and has been at aimed at Royal Ascot ever since so should turn up well prepared for the St James Palace Stakes. Connections have been bullish about his rematch with Canford Cliffs who looks to be improving with every run so Makfi will need to recreate his best form if he is to claim the win here for Mike Delzangles.
