Credit to Raven's Pass who ran him close in the end, but Johnny Murtagh rode a textbook race to guide the favourite to victory. The St James had Cockney Rebel go off at even money favourite to follow up his two Guineas victories in the English and Irish events. He was ridden with great confidence however when the button was pressed he drifted off a straight line into the centre of the track and Excellent Art ridden by Jamie Spence took it up inside the final furlong to give another winner to the Aiden O'Brien stable on.
